Over the past two years I’ve had the pleasure of working with Scott and Sherry Camil and the wonderful folks over at Veterans for Peace, Chapter 14 in Gainesville, FL. I’ve built the program layout the past 2 years for their popular Winter Solstice event. This is a local gathering that has been held every winter for 36 years (they successfully held digital events during Covid). Not only am I incredibly impressed by the longevity of this event and the resilience of its organizers, but I’m also extremely honored to have worked with Veterans for Peace alongside (digitally) numerous amazing folks in the GNV community. This publication serves as a key fundraiser for VFP, a non profit org. Designing it was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of planning, preparation,
coordination, and finally execution. Each program is over 80 pages. They serve as platforms for local writers and businesses and are also used as a tool to generate positivity through group song + humor. And most importantly they serve as a platform to commemorate/mourn/ remember losses in the community every year. There’s nothing mind bending about the layout or design…and much of it is working with submitted ads, but is a great opportunity to get nitty gritty with type and a boat load of logistical complexity on a shoestring budget with a tight deadline. What a great project and formidable design challenge! We’re not currently in Gainesville, but this project has certainly kept me connected to GNV. Thanks VFP! 🌞🙏
